Local news station, WLOS of Asheville recently posted an article about the local independent radio station, “Radio Asheville” setting itself up to be able to run when the power goes out.  General Manager Davyne Dial said that during the power outage caused by the remnants of Hurricane Helene two years ago, the station realized how important radio broadcasts became during the information blackout.

For those of us who lived through the experience, we recall the sudden absence of news broadcasts, internet news feeds and cell phone service.  It was quite the challenge, and without accurate information, the rumor mill gets easily started with incorrect information.  Not only that, but timely announcements about safety and warnings of flash flooding, landslides and such were unable to be delivered which likely resulted in loss of life.

But I find it very interesting that not only does Dial mention possible power outages due to weather, but also because of a cyberattack.  This is the first time I’ve seen a news outlet of this nature in this area mention the word.  Of course, I’ve written about this subject numerous times through the years.  But clearly others are picking up on the risks.  Add to that, the rapidly invasive artificial intelligence agents getting smarter and smarter, the need to be able to survive off-grid becomes more important than ever.

To that end, having a property or “bugout” where you can go to get away from any civil unrest that may occur during such a long term power outage is a good idea.  If you have the ability and foresight, we are here to help you find that ideal place where you can weather the storm (pun intended).
